We recently made a few updates to the Healing for the Healer program, including bringing on Ashiya Swan as an additional facilitator. Read on to find why she’s so excited about the retreats.
What excites you about offering these retreats?
What excites me the most about offering these retreats is the opportunity to create space for others to restore themselves. I also love the fact that these retreats offer the opportunity to be seen and heard. If I can help attendees return to their work feeling renewed, then I am also supporting those they serve.
What’s your favorite mode of self-care during the pandemic?
Sleep! Slowing down has allowed me to choose sleep more often to give my mind and body rest.
Why is self-care so necessary at this point in time?
When we continually give our body and our nervous system the chance to shift to a more relaxed state, we are able to manage the stress of living during a global pandemic more efficiently. This is the essence of resilience.
Ashiya Swan is the facilitator for the Healing for the Healer Retreats for Black nonprofit staff and nonprofit staff of color. While we appreciate the support of allies of other races/ethnicities, these particular retreats are reserved for nonprofit staff in our service area that self-identify in those ways.
