Due to space limitations, BHT must limit participation to one person per agency per grant workshop (with the exception of the Internal Controls workshops for which the agency's board treasurer should also plan to attend.) Registrations are accepted on a first come first serve basis until the workshop is full.
All workshops will be held at the BHT Office at 2928 Sidco Drive, Nashville, TN 37204.
INTRODUCTION TO BHT and PROPOSAL WRITING BASICS
This full day Introduction to BHT and Proposal Writing Basics will be held twice per year. This introduction workshop is required for all new applicants and can also be attended by those applicants who have a new grant writer.
This workshop will cover the history and mission of BHT, the Foundation’s funding process, the types of grants funded by BHT and tools for writing a successful proposal to BHT. This workshop will concurrently cover Transom, Education and Partnership (program) grants. The morning portion will focus on general information about the Foundation and its grant making process and criteria. BHT will provide lunch. The afternoon portion of the workshop will be focused on the elements of the program grant application as well as tips and tools for crafting a successful proposal.
Please note that as this session is mandatory for new applicants, registration preference will be given to new applicants. Former applicants should consider registering for the Technical Assistance Training instead of this training.
If you are attending the Introduction Workshop and have a dietary restriction, please contact BHT at 615-284-8271 and speak with Dawn Thrasher about your dietary needs.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TRAINING
This half day training is strongly suggested for those who have applied to the Trust before but may need extra assistance in writing their Transom, Education or Partnership grant application to BHT. This training is open to all applicants that have applied to the Trust previously. Please note that those applicants who register for the Introduction workshop do not need to also attend the Technical Assistance Training.
This class will not discuss basic information about the Foundation. Instead, BHT staff will delve into the creating workable program budgets and preparing financial statements as tools for writing a successful proposal. Participants will be coached on writing compelling application narratives that clearly articulate the mission, impact, outcomes, partnerships, and fiscal solvency of their organization, as well as demonstrate community need with realistic goals and workable budgets. In addition to narrative coaching, participants also learn about the critical role of supporting documents in demonstrating organizational capacity and leadership.
Upcoming T.A. Training Dates (1:30 - 4:30 PM):
March 4, 2014
September 30, 2014
INTERNAL CONTROLS WORKSHOPS
BHT will hold a mandatory training for all applicants that have not had an audit for a time period within the past 18 months. This training will focus on internal controls, and it is expected that the agency's CEO and Board Treasurer will attend prior to submitting a full proposal to the Trust. Trainings will be conducted by Amy Maden, CPA and BHT staff.
