Youth Villages is a private nonprofit organization that has been serving emotionally and behaviorally troubled children and their families since 1986. Helping children who have suffered abuse, neglect and/or violence to heal and rebuild their lives and saving broken families is at the heart of Youth Villages' mission to help children and families live successfully. This grant will support emergency medical/dental/mental health expenses and medication expenses as part of the program that provides assistance to youth transitioning out of the foster care system. 210 of 244 (86%) will seek/obtain safe housing, often to disengage from unhealthy and/or abusive relationships. 183 of 244 (75%) will engage in preventative health care by selecting and use a PCP/dentist for medical problems and routine checkups, thus decreasing their use of Emergency Room services. 95 of 110 (86%) of parents (45% of the 244 participants) in the program will select and use a pediatrician and will access services - HUGGS, Nurses for Newborns, etc. - to provide for and maintain the health and nutritional needs of their children.
