Tennessee Health Care Campaign
Established in 1989, THCC is a statewide non-partisan, non-profit patient advocacy organization working towards affordable access to high-quality health care for all Tennesseans. Their strategy is three-fold: 1) direct service to help people in need find health care coverage, safety-net services or charity care; 2) community outreach and public education about health care policy, resources, public programs, and systems of care; and 3) advocacy through coalition building and policy work. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund the salary, benefits, and travel for THCC's staff to conduct public education. Funding will also be used to generate educational materials and training supplies for patients, family members, caregivers and social service professionals in Middle Tennessee. 1) 300 of the 400 (75%) presentation attendees will demonstrate a better understanding of the ACA and its implications in Tennessee. 2) 169 of the 225 (75%) trained social workers will demonstrate a better understanding of the ACA and its implications on their clients. 3) Ten affected consumers will participate in a Provider/Advocate Roundtable. 4) Forty low-income, uninsured consumers will contact their state legislator.
