St. Thomas Health Services Fund is rooted in the loving ministry of Jesus as healer.  The mission of the Fund is to advance the caring ministry and medical excellence of Saint Thomas Health Services by providing funds for research, education and charity programs.  This grant will be used to fund 2 Symposia, the Art and Practice of Pastoral Care, Level I and Level II, that will focus on the development of pastoral competency for pastoral care providers in the greater Nashville community. 90% (13 to 16 participants) of Symposium Level II participants respond on the Program Evaluation that the Level II curriculum has directly addressed the identified pastoral needs of the local community. At the completion of the Symposium Level II, 90% of participants (13 to 16) answer questions on the Program Evaluation that they have an increased confidence to work regularly with clients in situations of crisis, stress, or grief. The self-evaluations indicate that students can better assess a client's need, identify relevant spiritual resources for the client, and offer a healing presence that is recognized by clients as supportive. 80% of the participants of the Symposium Level II (12 to 14) who engage in a clinical setting for two days show improvement in their pastoral care skills when evaluated by a chaplain.
