Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to ensuring that refugees and immigrants achieve their full potential now and for generations to come. NICE strives to empower refugees and immigrants in Middle Tennessee through direct social services and educational programs. Since its founding in 2005 by Dr. Gatluak Thach, NICE has served more than 21,000 refugees and immigrants from over 72 nations. The funds requested in the application will support the Nashville Refugee Health Initiative which will provide 335 refugees and immigrants health education, improved access to health care, and intensive case management services for clients thereby facilitating health outcome improvement. 141 out of 188 (75%) participants will move closer to a healthy BMI by gaining, maintaining or losing weight, thereby leading to reduced health risks.  71 out of 94 (75%) participants (at one year) will maintain or improve current health status and not develop hypertension, diabetes or obesity thereby demonstrating longer-term health improvements.
