Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, Inc. (MWCHC) was founded in 1968 to serve the people of North Nashville. Today the health center serves nearly 18,000 uninsured and under-insured individuals in Davidson, Montgomery and Rutherford County. The agency’s mission is to provide quality health care, health education and to promote wellness. The funds requested in the application will support a registered dental hygienist’s salary and benefits. 280 out of 430 (65%) of children (age 6-9) will receive an oral health risk assessment and necessary sealants to prevent loss of permanent teeth due to decay. Of those adult diabetic patients with uncontrolled diabetes and diagnosed with gum disease, 50% will have a completed treatment plan to reduce the infection/gum disease that leads to improvement in HbA1c levels (of at least 1%).
