Lipscomb University, established in 1891, is a private coeducational institution whose principal focus is undergraduate education in the liberal arts and sciences, combined with a number of pre-professional fields and graduate degree programs. Its primary mission is to integrate Christian faith and practice with academic excellence. The mission is carried out not only in the classroom but also by involvement in numerous services to churches and the larger community. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund salaries, educational programming, professional services and materials for dissemination. Appropriate measures will be monitored to track the progress of the curriculum impact. The original expectation was that 80% of the students participating in the curriculum will demonstrate proficiency in modeling compassionate care and that the results will be indicative of an improvement of at least 25% from the beginning of the course. In addition the faculty and practitioners at collaborative partner locations are expected to demonstrate a minimum of 25% improvement of their perception of their work as caring and compassionate healthcare providers after participating in the course.
