LEAD Academy, chartered in 2006, began its first classes in 2007. Today, LEAD serves 372 students in grades 5 through 9, adding one grade per year to complete LEAD High School in 2014. Its mission is to do "Whatever it Takes" to educate, train and support the next generation of responsible citizens. It welcomes all students who desire a rigorous academic and enriching personal development program to prepare them for college graduation and positive community impact. The grant requested in this application will fund the salary of a counselor at LEAD Academy. 99 out of 110 (90%) students who complete at least six months of an individualized counseling program consisting of one 45 - minute counseling session per week will demonstrate a 73% decrease in earned weekly demerits for negative behavior (average start at 7.5 behavior marks reduced to 2 marks per week). 99 out of 110 (90%) of students who complete a school year of weekly one-hour counseling sessions and meet their established personal action goals will demonstrate improved social coping skills and exhibit positive self-esteem as measured by weekly qualitative student/parent/counselor meetings sharing student progress, teacher observation and the student's own personal inventory assessment.
