KIPP Academy Nashville opened in July 2005 to serve youth from the educationally underserved neighborhoods in East Nashville. Historically, KIPP students have enrolled on average two-three years below grade level on standardized reading, language and math tests. By the 8th grade they are among the highest performers in the city. Their mission is to cultivate in our students the academic and character skills needed for them to succeed in top colleges and life beyond. The funds requested in the application will support a Director of Student Support position for region. The Director has responsibility for development of brand new programs, management of each individual school's program which includes, clinical treatment and the administration of staff and family resourcing support services. The agency’s outcomes include: 90 out of 120 students (75%) identified for individual counseling as having high/low levels in at least one of the following areas - depression, anxiety, anger, disruptive behavior, and self-concept - will improve their score on one or more of the Beck Youth Inventories by at least 2 points. )144 out of 180 students (80%) identified for group counseling as having high/low levels in at least one of the following areas -- mastery, relatedness, reactivity, vulnerability, and resiliency - will improve their score on the Resiliency Scales for Children & Adolescents by at least 2 points.
