Interfaith was founded in 1994 as a two-chair operation in the basement of West End United Methodist Church to provide affordable dental care for working, low-income, uninsured individuals, families and seniors. Interfaith Dental Clinic creates a healthier community by providing transformational oral health care for those experiencing poverty. The agency’s goals/outcomes for the year include: 1,700 of 1,800 or 94% of individuals are relieved from pain preventing a potential costly emergency room visit and serious health issue (screened for oral cancer, silver diamine fluoride application to arrest caries progression where appropriate, and are given recommendations for increased wellness involving oral hygiene, lifestyle changes and/or further treatment). 50 of 75 or 79% of pregnant women in the Well Baby Clinic will become oral infection-free prior to delivery and reduce vertical transmission of bacteria to their newborn.
