Established in 2008, the mission of Friends life "To love our adult Friends with developmental disabilities and to support them in fulfilling their God-given potential as they explore, enjoy and contribute to our community and as we experience Friends Life together." Friends Life provides a day program that focuses on the development of independent skills, making healthy lifestyle choices and service-learning for community involvement and employment opportunities. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund salary and payroll benefits for the Program Specialist for the Mind, Body & Spirit program. After 6 months, 18 of 30 (60%) of the participants will demonstrate improved physical health as seen in their increased weekly activity, range of motion, balance, healthy weight, endurance and/or other health indicators that contribute to their longevity and quality of life as shown by physical health assessments. After 12 months, 27 of 36 or 75% of total participants will show better mental and emotional health as demonstrated by less frequent negative behaviors, increased energy levels, positive mood and better communication skills as documented in monthly assessments with direct correlation to the increased physical activity, group health classes and individual Mentorship time.
