 The Fentress County Children's Center was established in February 2006 to provide child abuse prevention programs and offer counseling and other services for abused children and their non-offending parents. They are the only licensed mental health counseling service in Fentress County that specializes in services for children. Their mission is to provide a place of comfort and safety for children who have been abused, to equip children and parents with the tools necessary to heal from devastating trauma, and to prevent child abuse in our community. The grant requested will fund children's therapy through contracted time from the mental health provider a portion of the Director's time to do the intakes and coordinate the program. The program will provide 1500 individual or family therapy sessions for 150 family units with an average of 10 sessions per family. 120 of 150 (80%) of families will complete requirements by attending counseling sessions. 120 of 150 (80%) abused children will exhibit desired behavioral changes such as increased feelings of safety and reduced frequency or intensity of abuse-related symptoms including nightmares or aggression.
