Family and Children's Service
The mission of Family & Children's Service (FCS) is to strengthen families, children and individuals to achieve self-sufficiency, family preservation and emotional well-being. FCS was founded in 1943 and established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1955. It serves clients throughout the state in a variety of services ranging from in-person counseling to phone-based crisis counseling. In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, FCS served over 180,000 clients. It specializes in helping clients who have experienced crisis, trauma, abuse, and violence. FCS staff offer group and individual counseling, as well as specialized attachment and adoption services to assist children in the foster care system and school-based conflict resolution services. Its goals include having less than 5% of children enrolled in the program enter or re-enter State's custody, 80% of children maintaining placement in a family setting and not requiring an increased level of care, and 85% of children will experience placement stability, with no placement moves except for the purpose of achieving a higher level of permanence.
