Dispensary of Hope
Established in 2003, the Dispensary of Hope (DoH) is a Nashville-based nonprofit social enterprise. The DoH is a unique, national initiative engaged in medication "upcycling"-reclaiming surplus medication from physician offices, hospital pharmacies, manufacturers, and distributors, and then shipping that medication to safety-net clinics and charitable pharmacies. Its mission is to provide affordable medicine to every patient, on every continent...starting right here. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund a new and productive donor service line that receives medication from health systems that are eliminating sample medication from physician practices, anticipated to be $3.4million donated in year one. In terms of measurement, data will be collected through the DoH's eHope software system, specifically: 1) total value of donated medication (n=$3,400,000 in Average Wholesale Price by 12/31/2013), and 2) the number of patients served (each provided a 30-day first fill of medication for 19,724 low income, uninsured patients (19,724 = (3,400,000 X .8)/value of a prescription at $137.9)). 3) Improvement in medication adherence will be calculated using the Oregon Health Insurance Experiment model methodology at 15% for patients given access to medication (2,959 patients).
