Campus for Human Development
The Room In the Inn has worked to provide hospitality, hope and healing for the homeless of Nashville for almost 25 years, and it created the Campus for Human Development (CHD) in 1995. The Campus was formed in response to a call from Metro government and community leaders to create a single-site of services for the homeless-- who at that time were forced to shuffle from place to place, sometimes across town, to seek services. Its mission is to provide programs that emphasize human development and recovery through education, self-help, and work, centered in community and long-term support. CHD's goals for the upcoming year include: connecting each participant with an array of services and programs most appropriate to his or her needs, rather than simply addressing immediate needs; continuing to embrace a more holistic approach to wellness at its expanded Respite Care facility; addressing job readiness this year by starting two new programs for the Odyssey participants: (1) a new coffee shop for the homeless, at which the Odyssey participants will work and for which they will receive work and interview clothing as an incentive and (2) a bike program that will train Odyssey participants to refurbish bicycles, which will be provided to participants to use as transportation to and from work.
