Since 2000, Backfield in Motion has consistently impacted the community by fulfilling the mission to "combine academics and athletics to inspire inner city boys to reach their maximum potential in order to become significant contributors to society." Its mission has been accomplished through after school tutoring, Saturday school enrichment programs, summer academies, sports leagues, and other leadership opportunities for at-risk youth. This grant will fund a portion of salaries for 4 Wellness Coaches to implement exercise programs based on national best practices for reducing obesity in boys, materials, and sports camp. 105 out of 150 (70%) of participants struggling with obesity will demonstrate maintenance of loss from previous quarter or a weight reduction in the second quarter of the program related to improved nutrition and exercise program. 97 out of 150 (65%) of participants will have blood pressure checked at normal levels of 110 to 120 systolic over 70 to 80 diastolic at week 24 of the program related to improved nutrition and exercise program. 105 out of 150 (70%) of participants will score less than 19 composite on the Children's Depression Inventory within one year related to improved nutrition and exercise program.
